Former Vice President of Nigeria, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo has strongly denied reports alleging his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A statement issued on his behalf has clarified that the story currently circulating in the media is false and misleading.
The clarification came through Umar Sani, former media adviser to Sambo, who responded to public inquiries following the viral claim. According to him, “the story is a fabrication, laced with mischief and aimed at misleading the public.”
He confirmed that the former vice president remains a committed member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and has no plans to switch political allegiance.
A photograph shared online showed Sambo with Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani. The picture was used to suggest that he had joined the APC.
However, Sani explained that the image was taken years ago during a condolence visit after the death of Sambo’s brother, the late Sani Sambo. He said the photograph is now “deliberately misrepresented to fit a contrived narrative.”
Upcoming Hospital Commissioning Clarified
Sambo is scheduled to attend the commissioning of a 300-bed hospital in Kaduna on June 19, 2025. This facility was initiated during his time in office and is part of his legacy efforts to improve healthcare in Kaduna State.
According to the statement, his presence at the event is solely because of his role in starting the project and should not be mistaken for a political move.
“His invitation to witness the completion of this legacy project, and possibly offer a few remarks, must not be misconstrued as a political endorsement,” the statement said.
The hospital features modern facilities and is expected to improve access to healthcare for thousands in the state.
Rumour Rejected as Political Mischief
The former vice president’s team said that those behind the rumour aim to gain “cheap political mileage” by dragging Sambo’s name into partisan speculation. The public has been urged to ignore the story.
“We urge the public and the media to disregard this misinformation and treat it with the contempt it deserves,” the statement concluded.
Sambo continues to maintain a low profile in national politics but remains active in development issues. His support for PDP has been consistent since he left office in 2015.
