Businessman and former senator Ben Murray-Bruce has warned that the world is heading toward a devastating third world war.
In his view, the growing access to weapons, unchecked global violence, and the increasing number of reckless world leaders are all signs that a global conflict is approaching fast.
Speaking during an interview with foreign affairs analyst Dane Waters, Murray-Bruce did not hold back his fears. “We’re in big trouble, and as long as we have the kind of leaders we have in the world today, I see World War Three coming, and it’s going to be terrible,” he said.
However, he believes Africa—especially Nigeria—will not suffer the same destruction. “The beauty of World War III is that it’s not going to affect Africa. Africa will be spared,” he stated. “You guys are going to fight all across the world, but we are going to be safe in Nigeria.”
No Nukes, No Enemies—Nigeria Will Be Safe
Murray-Bruce explained why Nigeria would stay out of the chaos. “Nobody is going to be fighting in Nigeria because we have no territorial ambitions, we have no desire to acquire nuclear weapons, we don’t want to fight anybody,” he said. “We’re friends with all our West African neighbours.”
He said Nigeria’s neutral position and peaceful foreign policy would shield it from war. He described the country as a potential safe zone in the middle of global destruction.
“There’s going to be a World War III, the rest of the world will be destroyed, and we’ll be happy to welcome Americans, Israelis and Iranians to Nigeria,” he said.
Looking further into the possible future, Murray-Bruce joked that Nigeria might need to issue visas for people fleeing conflict.
“We’ll make sure you all have your visas to come here because we don’t want you to come as immigrants,” he said. “We don’t want to treat you badly when you come here, but we’re going to treat you well when you come visit us in Nigeria.”
He then questioned the global leadership that has brought the world to its current state. “I think we are in trouble. I think there’s too much violence in the world today,” he said. “Access to weapons is easy. We have a lot of trigger-happy leaders across the world, and because they are trigger-happy, they don’t care.”
“Leaders Cause Wars, Not The People”
Murray-Bruce also referred to the lessons of history. “It goes back to 1945, 1939, and 1917. First world war, second world war, Korean war, Vietnam war,” he recalled.
He blamed today’s instability on reckless global leadership. “I think there are many crazy people in the world and as long as we elect crazy people into leadership positions, this is what we’re going to have,” he said. “It’s the leaders that cause the war, not the people.”
