U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that America might be forced to directly intervene in the growing military conflict between Israel and Iran if the violence continues to escalate.
He said the U.S. is not currently involved, but the situation could change quickly if things spiral further out of control.
“We’re not involved in it. It’s possible we could get involved. But we are not at this moment involved,”
Trump said in an interview aired on Sunday. His comments came after a week of deadly airstrikes and missile exchanges between the two longtime enemies.
Violence Escalates as Both Sides Launch Attacks
The latest confrontation began on Friday when Israeli forces reportedly launched a preemptive attack on Iranian military and nuclear facilities.
In retaliation, Iran fired several waves of drones and missiles targeting Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv. Both nations have experienced severe destruction, civilian casualties, and disruption of daily life.

The conflict has moved from the shadows into open combat, raising fears that a full-scale regional war may be unfolding. For years, Israel and Iran engaged in covert operations and proxy conflicts. Now, both sides are directly striking each other.
Trump Predicts Possible Peace Deal, Suggests Putin Could Mediate
Despite the chaos, President Trump expressed hope that diplomacy could eventually bring calm. He predicted that both countries might “make a deal” after the violence runs its course.
“I think it’s time for a deal,” he told reporters at the White House before heading to the G7 summit in Canada. “But sometimes they have to fight it out—we’ll see what happens.”
In a surprising remark, Trump revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had contacted him and offered to mediate peace talks. He said, “He is ready. He called me about it. We had a long talk about it. We talked about this more than his situation.” Trump said he believes a peaceful resolution is possible and already in motion.
Iran Skeptical of U.S. Claims of Non-Involvement
Iran, however, doubts the United States‘ neutrality. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said his country had received messages from Washington through several channels, assuring them that the U.S. was not involved in Israel’s attack and would not participate in future ones.
Still, Araghchi dismissed those assurances. “As I said, we don’t believe the U.S.’s claim,” he said.
The tension between Iran and the U.S. continues to complicate the situation, with Tehran accusing Washington of secretly backing Israel’s actions.
U.S. Issues Travel Advisory as Danger Grows
As fighting intensifies, the U.S. State Department has approved the voluntary evacuation of non-essential staff and families from the U.S. Embassy in Israel. A public memo advised American citizens to leave the region while commercial transport options remain available.
“U.S. citizens who wish to depart should not delay in taking advantage of commercial transportation options,” the advisory said. A shelter-in-place order for remaining embassy staff remains in effect.
A senior American official also disclosed that President Trump had blocked a secret Israeli proposal to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in what could have been a major escalation of the war.
Trump Hopes for Peace, But Warns Conflict Could Worsen
On his Truth Social platform, Trump reiterated his hope that peace talks could soon begin. He said “many calls and meetings” were underway and expressed confidence that Israel and Iran might settle their differences diplomatically.
Still, he admitted the situation may get worse before it gets better. “We’ll see what happens,” he repeated.
The international community continues to call for restraint, but the current conflict has already reached dangerous new levels. With both nations striking openly and directly, and with leaders issuing warnings instead of de-escalation plans, the Middle East remains on edge.
