FG Orders Probe Into Viral Video of Neglected Road Accident Victims at Abuja Hospital

The Federal Government is investigating a viral video showing road accident victims allegedly ignored at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja.

The video, shared widely on social media, captured disturbing scenes outside the emergency unit. It showed injured victims left unattended after being brought to the hospital by a passerby.

The good Samaritan who recorded the video said he found the victims lying on the roadside and rushed them to the hospital for treatment.

He said the medical team refused to help immediately. “One staff said they could not help because there were no gloves,” he claimed.

Moments later, the video showed some medical personnel assisting one of the victims into the emergency unit.

Other injured persons were seen walking into the building without support, despite being badly hurt. Some were limping or using the wall for balance.

The video caused outrage among Nigerians online, with many calling for urgent action from the authorities.

FMC Begins Internal Investigation, Denies Shortage of Medical Supplies

The hospital’s spokesperson said the facility has launched a full investigation into the incident. He said they are speaking with staff and witnesses.

He confirmed that the emergency department had enough gloves, medical supplies, and resuscitation tools on the day of the incident.

Medical personnel apparently reluctant to commence emergency treatment of an accident victim

“There were no shortages of gloves, trolleys, or wheelchairs in the emergency unit,” the hospital said.

He added that hospital staff are expected to provide immediate care to any patient brought in for emergency treatment.

FMC Jabi said it is committed to improving public trust and continues to gather more information on what happened.

The hospital also reminded the public that it has open communication lines, including phone numbers, email addresses, and QR codes for feedback.
