DSS, Military Kill 45 Bandits in Kuchi, Niger State in Surprise Night Raid

In the early hours of Monday, June 2, 2025, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Military reportedly launched a surprise offensive against a bandit camp near Kuchi town in Munya Local Government Area of Niger State. The raid led to the elimination of about 45 armed bandits.

This operation was a stealth and coordinated strike, aimed at stopping a planned attack on Kuchi and nearby villages. Security sources confirmed that the DSS had been tracking the bandits with precision for days before the raid.

Dogo Gide’s Plan Foiled by Swift Intelligence Operation

The eliminated criminals were said to be working under the command of notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide. Intelligence gathered from the DSS revealed that the bandits came from Bilbis Forest in Maru LGA of Zamfara State and parts of Kaduna State.

They were responding to an invitation from Gide to invade Kuchi and surrounding villages. A security source disclosed: “In the early hours of Monday, 2nd June 2025, bandits from Kaduna and Zamfara States, numbering about 100, heavily armed with sophisticated weapons, advanced towards Kuchi town in Munya LGA.”

Before the group could strike, DSS operatives intercepted them at the outskirts of the town. “The operatives launched a surprise attack and waylaid the bandits in the outskirts of Kuchi town. The operatives engaged the fleeing dissidents in a gun duel, which saw the elimination of the bandits, with several injured and motorcycles and ammunition recovered.”

Among the recovered items were AK-47 rifles, motorcycles used for mobility, and several rounds of ammunition. The operation prevented what could have been a bloody massacre in the quiet town.

DSS Suffer Casualties but Maintain Upper Hand

Although the operation was successful, five DSS operatives were wounded and are now receiving treatment in hospital. The injuries were described as severe, but not life-threatening.

“This ambush which is a part of sustained offensives against the bandits, followed the earlier decimation of over 50 bandits, has dealt a heavy blow on Dogo Gide who in the past months has been losing huge territories to the superior firepower and covert disruptions by operatives deployed to these troubled spots,” a source added.

Local sources confirmed that residents of Munya LGA have been living in fear of the recurring threat posed by Dogo Gide and his followers. His fighters had been terrorising villages, extorting farmers, and kidnapping travellers.

“Serious heat has been turned on them, and we hope they will be sustained. We pray that these efforts, by the SSS that appear quite new and aimed at saving our communities from the bandits, will continue,” a local informant said.

Fresh Hope for Communities in Niger State

This is the second major offensive in Munya LGA in recent weeks. Just days before this latest strike, DSS operatives had dislodged another bandit group in the same region. The new success has restored confidence and calm in many parts of Niger State.

The operation also demonstrates the growing capability of Nigerian security forces to use real-time intelligence to prevent rural terrorism and reclaim territories previously dominated by armed gangs.

The DSS and Nigerian Military have stepped up joint efforts to eliminate terrorists in the North Central and North West regions. Dogo Gide, who was once untouchable, now finds his influence shrinking rapidly.

Residents in Kuchi and surrounding villages are now calling for continued military presence to prevent regrouping by the criminals.
