Bomb Explosion at Borno Bus Stop Kills Nine, Injures Many

A deadly bomb explosion at a local bus stop in Mairari village, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State, has claimed nine lives and left many injured.

The explosion occurred around 11 a.m. on Saturday, reportedly caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by terrorists. Victims were waiting to board commercial vehicles when the blast erupted.

Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, confirmed the incident.

“It is unfortunate that nine of my resilient constituents were killed by planted IEDs while waiting to board vehicles at a local bus stop in Mairari village,” Lawan stated.

He extended condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the swift recovery of those receiving treatment in Monguno and Maiduguri hospitals.

Security Concerns in Guzamala

Lawan lamented the continued attacks in the region, noting that Mairari village had been resettled twice with full civil authority but was deserted again due to renewed Boko Haram and ISWAP activities.

“Unfortunately, terrorists monitoring their movements planted IEDs at the local bus stop, which exploded while they were waiting to board commercial vehicles back to their destinations,” he narrated.

He urged the military and security agencies to intensify efforts to restore security in Guzamala, particularly in Gudumbali and Mairari village, which remain under Boko Haram control without civil authority.

CJTF Members Killed in Marte Ambush

On May 29, 2025, nine members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) lost their lives in a deadly ambush in Marte, Borno State.

The attack occurred around 1:10 a.m. on May 27, when heavily armed insurgents launched an assault on CJTF positions. Despite being outnumbered, CJTF forces repelled the attackers, inflicting casualties and forcing them to retreat.

Tragically, as CJTF members attempted to recover the body of a fallen comrade, they triggered an IED planted by retreating insurgents, killing nine instantly.

The report also confirmed that several civilians captured by insurgents were brutally executed before the terrorists fled the area.
