The Igbo Women Assembly (IWA) has voiced dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing increased hardship, insecurity, and economic instability in Nigeria.
Lolo Nneka Chimezie, IWA’s National President, stated that Nigerians are experiencing more suffering now than before Tinubu assumed office two years ago.
“Insecurity has become a monster in every region of the country,” she said. “Nigerians are no longer secure. Even residents of Abuja, the seat of power, have come under increasing terror attacks. If Abuja is not safe, where else is safe in Nigeria?“
Criticize Appointments and Economic Policies
IWA criticised the President’s appointments, alleging they are based on tribal affiliations and friendships rather than competence. “The country has not felt any better under President Bola Tinubu’s administration,” Chimezie noted.
“Appointments are not given based on competence and what one is capable of offering, but based on tribal and primordial sentiments or friendship.“
The group also addressed the economic challenges, attributing them to the removal of fuel subsidies without adequate preparation.
Professor Sabastine Uremmadu from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, remarked, “Nigeria is not better than it was two years ago. How can we be better with the removal of fuel subsidy without any preparations?“
Calls for Immediate Action
Bishop Sunday Onuoha, Co-chair of the Interfaith Dialogue Forum, urged the President to declare a state of emergency on hunger and insecurity. “The level of hunger in the land and insecurity have made life hard for Nigerians. These two challenges must be addressed urgently,” he said.
IWA emphasized that the current administration lacks clear direction and vision. “Tinubu did not come prepared but only grabbed power on the basis of: ‘it’s my turn’ mentality,” Chimezie asserted.
“He seems to be more concerned about himself, his family, his Yoruba tribe, and his friends. That’s not the right mentality if we must survive and thrive as a country.“
The group concluded that meaningful change requires a new leadership approach. “The only solution to Nigeria’s problem is a change of Government. If we get a better hand that can take over the statecraft and navigate it to the right direction, Nigeria will become great again,” Chimezie added.
