The Federal Government says it plans to launch a registration portal for the upcoming National Youth Summit, allowing young Nigerians from across the country to participate in the 30-day conference.
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed this during Channels Television’s Youth Forum on Thursday. He assured that the government would prioritize proper planning to ensure transparency in the process.
“My generation wants things quick. But I’ve realized that nothing can be gained without proper planning. In a few days, we will launch a portal because we want transparency,” Olawande stated.
He explained that the summit will engage youth from all federal constituencies before expanding discussions to Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
“We want to see how we can engage young people in all federal constituencies. From there, we will move to the six geopolitical zones,” he added.
The minister acknowledged concerns that the conference could be politically motivated but assured that the initiative aims to deliver meaningful outcomes for young Nigerians.
Government Promise to Implement Summit Resolutions
Olawande said recommendations from the summit will be implemented through legislative and administrative channels.
“Even at the committee level, no one will act as an individual. At the end of the conference, I will present a communiqué at FEC and say, ‘This is an executive direction. It should be passed,’” he said.
During Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day speech on October 1, 2024, President Bola Tinubu announced the 30-day youth summit, stating that it will serve as a platform for discussions on challenges affecting young people.
The President assured that the selection of delegates would be done in consultation with youth representatives, and the government would take summit recommendations seriously.
“This conference will be a platform to address the diverse challenges and opportunities confronting our young people, who constitute more than 60% of our population,” Tinubu said.
“It will provoke meaningful dialogue and empower our young people to participate actively in nation-building. By ensuring their voices are heard in shaping policies that impact their lives, we are creating a pathway for a brighter tomorrow.”
