Elon Musk Steps Down from DOGE Following Disagreement Over a Republican Bill

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has officially stepped down from his role as a special government employee in the Trump administration.

Musk’s departure came just one day after he publicly criticized a Republican-backed bill meant to fund much of President Donald Trump‘s policy goals. The bill aimed to channel more funds into defense, border security, and infrastructure projects.

According to a White House official, Musk began the offboarding process on Wednesday. By that evening, two independent sources confirmed that his more than 114-day tenure in the position had officially ended.

Musk was appointed to help reduce government spending and improve operations. He led a short-term task force known as the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE.

Musk Shares Message on Exit and DOGE Mission

After stepping down, Musk made a post on X, the social media platform he owns. He encouraged the government to continue the goals he promoted.

“Let the DOGE mission become a way of life throughout the government,” he wrote.

The DOGE initiative aimed to cut down on redundant agencies, modernize federal digital systems, and improve transparency. Under Musk’s leadership, the team pushed for leaner budgets and faster tech adoption in key departments.

Many observers believe his departure may affect the momentum of these changes. However, White House officials insist the initiative will go on without him.

Mixed Reactions to Musk’s Departure

Inside government circles, Musk’s sudden resignation has drawn mixed reactions.

Some insiders welcomed his ideas and tech-driven approach. Others felt his outspoken opinions and outsider status disrupted traditional protocols.

One government staffer said, “He came in with energy and new ideas, but not everyone agreed with how he wanted to do things.”

Even after his departure, Musk remains a powerful influencer with strong opinions on federal spending, technology, and politics.
