In the early hours of Friday, May 30, 2025, Nigerian troops carried out a major military operation against Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

The joint effort, led by the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force under Operation Hadin Kai, was described as a “decisive and coordinated operation” by the Army.

The assault began at around 1:09 am when terrorists attacked troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade. In response, a powerful land and air offensive was launched on the terrorists’ positions in Bita, southern Borno State.

According to the Army, the attack was successful, and no fewer than 60 terrorists were neutralised during the intense battle. The operation was backed by precision airstrikes that hit the terrorists while they attempted to flee.

Air Strikes Deliver Strong Blow Against Boko Haram

The Nigerian Air Force also confirmed its role in the mission. Combat aircraft targeted fleeing insurgents with accurate airstrikes under the cover of darkness.

“In the early hours of today, 30 May 2025, NAF combat aircraft carried out precision airstrikes on fleeing terrorists in Bita, Borno State, neutralising scores of insurgents,” said Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.

The air offensive has been described as one of the strongest recent blows dealt to Boko Haram. The Air Force noted that this mission represents a big step in dismantling terrorist networks that continue to threaten peace and stability in Nigeria’s North East.

After the airstrikes, ground troops began a clearance mission to secure the area and prevent regrouping by the terrorists.

The Air Force reassured Nigerians of its commitment to national security and pledged that no terrorist group will be allowed to operate freely within the country.

“All necessary measures are being taken to ensure that terrorist elements have no safe haven anywhere within the country,” the statement added.
