Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2031. The 17-year-old winger agreed to the six-year deal after a record-breaking season.
Yamal helped Barcelona win the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup during Hansi Flick’s first year as manager. He made 55 appearances, scored 18 goals, and assisted 25 times.
The young forward made his debut for Barcelona at just 15 years old in 2023. He has since become one of the brightest talents in world football.
The new contract was signed on Tuesday at the club’s offices. President Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco were present at the signing.
Barcelona called Yamal a rare and historic player. “Yamal’s renewal is a demonstration of the solidity of Barca’s project. His emergence on to the world football scene is like few others,” the club said.
“The lad from Mataró near Barcelona has exploded on to the stage that is world football with performances that are already part of Barcelona history,” the club added.
Youngest Scorer and Fastest to 100 Games
Yamal has already scored 25 goals in 115 games for Barcelona. He is the youngest player to score in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.
He also became the youngest player to reach 100 games for the club. Barcelona fans have compared him to Lionel Messi, who also rose through the ranks at La Masia, the club’s football academy.
Yamal turns 18 in July but is already a regular name in the football world. He continues to break records both for club and country.
He has earned 19 caps for the Spanish national team. He was part of the squad that won Euro 2024 in Berlin, beating England 2–1 in the final.
Football fans and analysts call him a “once-in-50-years” talent.
Barcelona Confirms Long-Term Plans With Young Stars
Barcelona are not only securing Yamal’s future. The club has also renewed the contracts of manager Hansi Flick and Brazilian forward Raphinha.
The management wants to build a long-lasting team around talented players from La Masia and top international stars.
The club believes Yamal is central to its future success. His contract reportedly includes a high release clause to prevent other clubs from luring him away.
Yamal is expected to play a key role as Barcelona aims to win more domestic and international trophies in the coming years.
