Novak Djokovic Wins 100th ATP Title at Geneva Open

Novak Djokovic has made tennis history, becoming only the third man to win 100 ATP titles after a thrilling victory over Hubert Hurkacz in the Geneva Open final.

Djokovic, playing his first tournament since parting ways with former coach Andy Murray, overcame a slow start to defeat Hurkacz 5-7, 7-6 (7/2), 7-6 (7/2) in a match lasting over three hours.

The Serbian star now joins Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer as the only male players to reach a century of tour-level titles.

Djokovic’s Road to Victory

Hurkacz, ranked 31st, started strong, taking the first set after Djokovic double-faulted on set point. The Polish player maintained pressure in the second set, fending off break points, but Djokovic found his rhythm in the tie-break to level the match.

The final set was intense. Djokovic lost his opening service game, allowing Hurkacz to gain momentum. However, the Pole faltered at 4-3, committing two unforced errors and a double-fault, which allowed Djokovic back into the contest.

A tense final game led to another tie-break, where Hurkacz lost composure. Djokovic capitalized with clinical precision, sealing the victory with an ace.

A Historic Milestone

This win marks Djokovic’s first trophy since securing Olympic gold last summer. At 38 years old, he continues to dominate the sport.

Speaking after the match, Djokovic acknowledged the difficulty of the encounter.

“He was probably closer to the victory the entire match than me. A few points decide it, an incredible match… and I’m delighted to clinch the 100 here,” he said.

Djokovic had struggled on clay earlier this season, suffering defeats to Alejandro Tabilo and Matteo Arnaldi. Seeking form ahead of the French Open, he opted for the Geneva tournament and was rewarded with a landmark win.

He now stands one Grand Slam title away from a record-extending 25th major singles crown. His Roland Garros campaign begins against Mackenzie McDonald.

Hurkacz’s Reaction

Despite the loss, Hurkacz was gracious in defeat.

“It’s really inspiring how you conduct yourself on and off the court,” he told Djokovic during the trophy ceremony.

Djokovic’s victory makes him the first man to win ATP titles across 20 consecutive seasons. With his sights set on Paris, the tennis world eagerly awaits his next historic achievement.
