The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the release of results for candidates who sat the rescheduled 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
JAMB rescheduled the UTME for over 300,000 candidates whose results were affected by a technical glitch at 157 centres in Lagos State and the South-East.
A total of 336,845 candidates were scheduled for the resit, but 21,082 were absent. JAMB has confirmed that candidates who missed either the main UTME or the rescheduled UTME will have another opportunity to sit for the exam.
The board stated that 71,701 candidates missed the initial UTME, while 21,082 were absent during the rescheduled exam. In total, 92,783 candidates are eligible for a resit.
Examination Review and Malpractice Concerns
JAMB expressed regret over the technical failure that led to the rescheduling. A post-exam review uncovered irregularities involving candidates, school proprietors, and Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
The board revealed that some CBT centres engaged in registration fraud and examination malpractice. As a result, JAMB has decided to blacklist all implicated centres and prosecute their owners.
Before releasing the results, JAMB invited Professor Boniface Nworgu, an expert in educational measurement and evaluation, to review them. His findings were corroborated by a committee of Chief External Examiners, chaired by Professor Olufemi Peters, Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria.
UTME Performance Statistics
JAMB released a detailed breakdown of the 2025 UTME performance:
- 17,025 candidates (0.88%) scored above 300.
- 117,373 candidates (6.08%) scored above 250.
- 565,988 candidates (29.3%) scored above 200.
- 1.3 million candidates (70.7%) scored below 200.
The board noted that this year’s performance aligns with historical UTME trends, where success rates have ranged between 11% (2013) and 34% (2016).
Underage Candidates and Exam Misconduct
JAMB has resolved to release the withheld results of underage candidates who performed below the established standards, except where litigation is involved. However, these results do not qualify them for admission.
The board condemned WhatsApp groups used for exam malpractice and warned candidates against joining such platforms.
JAMB reiterated that its decision to release certain results is a one-time waiver and does not endorse misconduct.
