The Labour Party in Abia State has dismissed claims that Governor Alex Otti is supporting President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid for the 2027 elections.

This denial came after Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, said all five South-East governors support President Tinubu’s re-election plan.

Umahi made this statement during a public event on Tuesday. But the Labour Party insists there is no official confirmation from Governor Otti or the party.

‘Governor Otti Has Not Endorsed Tinubu’ — LP Chairman

Speaking in Umuahia on Thursday, the Abia State Labour Party Chairman, Emmanuel Otti, said the minister’s claim is speculative. “No, he (Umahi) didn’t say Governor Otti and the other South-East governors are supporting the President’s re-election in 2027. What he said was, ‘they will,’” Otti stated. “Umahi was simply making a postulation.”

He said Governor Otti has not informed the Labour Party of any support for Tinubu’s second-term bid. “The governor has not told us anything like that. So for now, it remains speculation. We didn’t hear it from the governor—Umahi merely postulated,” he added.

Emmanuel Otti noted that the Labour Party remains focused on governance and development in Abia State.

Tinubu’s Visit to Aba Is Official, Not Political

The Labour Party Chairman also addressed President Tinubu’s upcoming visit to Abia to commission the Port Harcourt Road project in Aba.

He explained that the invitation extended to the President was not political. “That is the official function of the President. He is the President of the country, and commissioning projects is part of his statutory role,” he said.

“Abia is part of Nigeria, and therefore it is within the President’s jurisdiction to visit and perform such functions,” he added.

When asked if political statements might be made during the visit, the LP Chairman refused to speculate. “I wouldn’t preempt either the governor or the President. Let’s wait and see what they say when the President visits,” he said.
