Although he has not said publicly he is interested in running for Nigeria’s presidency again in 2027, the chances of President Bola Tinubu, if he decides to run, was today hugely boosted ty the unanimous endorsement of all elected governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to back him..
The decision was made during the APC National Summit held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday. Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum, made the announcement.
“All APC governors have agreed that President Tinubu will be our sole presidential candidate in 2027,” Uzodinma said.
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State seconded the motion. The gathering responded with an enthusiastic “yes” vote after the motion was put forward.
President Tinubu is currently in his first term. However, talks of his re-election have taken over political discussions within and outside the party.
This early endorsement by the governors gives Tinubu a strong boost toward securing another term in office.
Northern APC Leaders Back Tinubu’s Second Term
A separate meeting was held on Wednesday evening in Abuja. It brought together governors and top APC leaders from Nigeria’s North Central region.
Five APC governors attended the meeting, along with other senior party members. Their aim was to show commitment to Tinubu’s return in 2027.

“We want President Tinubu to continue his reforms and policies beyond 2027,” one of the leaders said.
They believe the president needs more time to build on his current plans and economic programmes.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, formally moved the motion endorsing Tinubu for a second term.
The meeting ended with a strong show of unity among the North Central governors and party leaders.
