The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to begin commissioning completed infrastructure projects on June 10, 2025. This will last for 19 days to mark President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year in office.
The announcement was made during the 14th Executive Committee meeting of the FCTA, chaired by Minister Nyesom Wike in Abuja.
“The commissioning of projects will commence on June 10, 2025, and will go on for 19 days,” the minister said.
Major Roads and Infrastructure Projects Set for Inauguration
The projects to be commissioned include the newly renovated Abuja International Conference Centre. Two new bus terminals at Kugbo and Mabushi will also be unveiled.
In addition, the long-awaited Apo–Wassa road will be opened, alongside the N16 interchange and roads connecting Maitama, Katampe, and Jahi.
Road projects such as the Inner Northern Expressway (from Ring Road 3 at Idu to Kubwa), CN8 route (from N5 on Obafemi Awolowo Way to the Court of Appeal), and the N20 flyover on Onnex Kubwa Road are also scheduled.
Other projects include:
- Life Junction to Ring Road III
- Kabusa–Takushara Access Road
- Kabusa–Ketti Access Road
- A new access road in Giri District
- A 15-kilometre road from A2 Junction Abuja–Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council
- Ushafa, War College, and Army Checkpoint roads in Bwari Area Council
Streetlights Along Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway to be Upgraded
The FCTA Executive Committee has approved a contract to upgrade streetlights on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I).
Mr. Richard Dauda, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), revealed this during the meeting. He said seven memos were submitted by the FCDA, and the streetlight project was one of them.
He explained that the project would replace outdated lights along the 14-kilometer 10-lane expressway from Maitama to Gudu.
“If you pass there in the night, you will realise that most parts of the road are in darkness,” he said.
“The project was completed between 2005 and 2006, and the lights have become obsolete and no longer bright enough to lighten the road,” he added.
According to Dauda, a new hybrid street lighting system will be installed. This will use modern technology to make the road brighter, safer, and more motorable at night.
