Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammed has said President Bola Tinubu is running a government that mainly benefits the South West, ignoring other regions.
She made these claims during an interview in Abuja on The PAP Show, hosted by Hadiza Malumfashi.
Naja’atu was formerly a director in Tinubu’s campaign team and a member of the Police Service Commission. She now leads the Northern Star Foundation, which empowers young people in Northern Nigeria.
“I Never Supported Tinubu,” She Says
Naja’atu said she never believed in Tinubu’s leadership and only joined the campaign after being pressured several times.
“I never supported him. I supported Vice President Yemi Osinbajo during the primaries,” she said. “But when Tinubu won the APC ticket, I was asked to serve as a director in charge of NGOs, which I found contradictory because NGOs should be apolitical.”
She recalled a private meeting with Tinubu in London. She said she asked him about his plans for the North, and he gave a vague response.
“He told me he had no plans for the North. When I asked what he had for the country, he said his only plan was the APC manifesto,” she said. “He said a personal blueprint would offend too many interests.”
“All the North Needs Is State Police,” She Was Told
According to her, when she presented a development plan through the Network for National Salvation, Tinubu’s team rejected it.
“One of his aides, Masari, said all the North needed was state police. That we didn’t need electricity, infrastructure, or to tackle out-of-school children and insecurity,” she said.
Naja’atu expressed frustration that key national problems in the North are being ignored, while resources are being focused on Lagos and the South West.
“Tinubu Has Turned Himself into a Yoruba King”
She claimed that President Tinubu is favouring the Yoruba ethnic group through his appointments and decisions.
“He’s a regional president. Everything revolves around the South West. Billions are being pumped into Lagos, even federal agencies and functions are being moved there,” she said. “He has turned himself into a Yoruba king, and that’s dangerous for national unity.”
Naja’atu also said Tinubu’s leadership reminds her of how he controlled Lagos politics after leaving office in 2007.
“No other former leader has had such a grip on power. Not even Obasanjo or any military ruler,” she said.
She linked his government to increasing hardship, saying inflation, ₦ devaluation, and insecurity are getting worse under his leadership.
Kanu’s Detention and Igboho’s Freedom Raise Questions
Naja’atu questioned why the government remains silent on Sunday Igboho’s freedom but continues to detain Nnamdi Kanu.
“If Igboho could walk free while Kanu is kept in detention, what message does that send?” she asked.
She said Nigeria needs a leader for all, not just a region.
“What Nigeria needs is a unifier, a leader whose constituency is the entire country. But what we have now is a president who has balkanized Nigeria along regional lines,” she said.
She urged Nigerians to hold their leaders accountable and demand fair governance.
“Governance should be about the welfare and security of all Nigerians, not a few. Sadly, that’s not what we’re seeing today,” she said.
