Secretary to the Federal Government, George Akume, Urge Nigerians to Embrace Made-in-Nigeria Products

George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has called on Nigerians to buy locally made goods. He described this action as an expression of national pride,

Akume made this appeal during a visit from the Innoson Group of Companies, led by its Chairman, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, to his office in Abuja.

“The visit was a timely reminder that patronising Made-in-Nigeria goods isn’t just an economic strategy—it’s an act of national pride. Government remains committed to creating an enabling environment where indigenous businesses can thrive and lead,” Akume said.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base and increasing local manufacturing across key sectors.

The government’s Renewed Hope Agenda aims to create a conducive environment for indigenous businesses to flourish.

Akume urged Nigerians to support government programmes for economic development and growth by consciously choosing Nigerian-made products.

“We must promote Made-in-Nigeria goods as a path towards economic recovery and growth,” he stated.

He also asserted that locally produced goods can compete favourably with imported products.

The government’s commitment includes initiatives to boost the capacity of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.

Efforts are being made to reduce the cultural preference for foreign goods and encourage the consumption of local products.

By supporting local industries, Nigeria hopes to achieve a more self-sufficient and robust economy, but citizens expect the government to lead by example.

In a country where official cars of government officials, for example, are almost exclusively imported ones, the government’s advisory remains an open question.
