The Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Dr. Charles Ebuebu, has announced plans to update the NBC Act to accommodate emerging digital technologies reshaping Nigeria’s media industry.
At a news conference in Lagos ahead of the 2025 AFRICAST conference, Dr. Ebuebu said, “Our current laws must adapt to the evolving digital landscape. We must regulate AI-driven content while fostering creativity.”
He emphasized the need for balanced policies that ensure ethical broadcasting while preventing violations in content creation. He noted that the reform would enable media organizations to thrive in a competitive digital environment.
AFRICAST 2025: A Major Industry Gathering
The AFRICAST 2025 conference, themed “Navigating the Digital Surge to Build a Resilient African Media Ecosystem,” will take place in Lagos from October 20 to 24. The conference aims to promote innovation, content creation, and industry growth.
NBC appointed Mrs. Adesua Ayeneye, Vice President of Threesixty Africa Group, as the official Project Coordinator. She remarked, “AFRICAST 2025 will showcase Africa’s creative potential and provide a platform for new voices.”
Industry professionals, policy experts, and global media executives will converge in Lagos to discuss solutions for AI-driven content, digital distribution, and local storytelling. Organizers expect the event to shape future policy decisions and strengthen Nigeria’s media sector.
AFRICAST has long been a premier international conference for media technology. The event attracts manufacturers of broadcasting and film equipment seeking to expand their reach across Africa.
