The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs) and the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) have empowered 500 women across Rivers State’s 23 Local Government Areas.

The RHI, led by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, aims to provide sustainable support to vulnerable women nationwide. The empowerment event took place in Port Harcourt and is part of a broader push to lift women out of poverty.

This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 1 (No Poverty), Goal 5 (Gender Equality), and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).

Beneficiaries received essential business equipment, including deep-chest freezers, gas cookers with ovens, generators, and industrial grinding machines. These tools will help them strengthen their small-scale enterprises and generate sustainable income.

Tina Pepple, one of the recipients, expressed her gratitude, saying, “This is a miracle that will change my life. With this, I can support my family. I thank our mother, the First Lady, and the SDGs Office for remembering us.”

Other women, including Blessing Dickson, Kariba Dives, Doris Jaja, Stella Ohochukwu, Gloria Kuki, and Salome Ohochukwu, also thanked the First Lady and OSSAP-SDGs for their support.

Nationwide Economic Revitalization

Dr. Theresa Ibas, wife of the Sole Administrator of Rivers, represented the First Lady at the event. She described the initiative as a step toward economic revitalization.

“Today, we are equipping our women with essential tools like deep-chest freezers, gas cookers with ovens, generators, and industrial grinding machines to help them build successful businesses and contribute to our nation’s prosperity,” she said.

Senator Tinubu connected the initiative to Nigeria’s broader economic and social development strategy, emphasizing its importance for gender equality and sustainable growth.

“These items are not just tools; they are stepping stones toward financial independence and a better future for Nigerian women,” she noted.

Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, described the program as an effort to unlock potential and promote economic independence.

“By equipping 500 women per state and the FCT with tools such as gas cookers, generators, deep freezers, and grinding machines, we are strengthening their capacity to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute to inclusive national development,” she said.
