Gov. Fubara Blinks First, Reportedly Prostrates For Wike, Beg to be Reinstated to Office

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reportedly gone to Abuja to reconcile with his erstwhile godfather, Nyesom Wike.

This happened days after a leaked meeting between Fubara and President Bola Tinubu in London over their political situation in Rivers State. Mr Tinubu had, unconstitutionally, in the view of some law experts, suspended Fubara and other elected officials from office for six months and imposed an emergency rule in the state.

Sources said Governor Dapo Abiodun and ex-Governor Olusegun Osoba, both of Ogun State, political allies of the president, took Fubara to Wike’s house.

“Fubara was brought to the minister’s house on Friday, 18 April. He prostrated for Wike while holding his legs and calling him, ‘My Oga’,” one source, according to an online media said.

“He was in Wike’s house till the wee hours of Saturday, 19 April,” the source added.

The exact details of what they discussed are still unknown. But insiders reportedly claim that Wike told Fubara to return to Rivers State and explain the whole issue to his supporters, especially the elders.

Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, confirmed the visit but said he didn’t know what was discussed.

Fubara’s media aide, Nelson Chukwudi, didn’t give any comment. “I don’t respond to this kind of enquiry. You can contact the commissioner for information,” he said.

Efforts to reach the Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Joseph Johnson, were unsuccessful.

It is still unknown what the rift between the godfather and godson is about, but Fubara severally insist in addressing the conflict that he would “continue to protect the interests of the Rivers people.“

State Retrieves Vehicles From Suspended Deputy Governor

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government under the appointed Sole Administrator, Ekwe Ibas has explained why it took back three official vehicles from the suspended Deputy Governor, Ngozi Ordu.

Two Toyota Hilux trucks and one Hiace bus were removed from her premises.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the government said the move was routine. It said the vehicles were state property that needed to be secured.

The government accused political players of twisting the situation for personal gain.

“What legitimate purpose did these vehicles serve in the suspended Deputy Governor’s premises over a month after the declaration of a state of emergency?” the statement asked.

Officials said the vehicle recovery wasn’t about power abuse. They said the administration is focused on managing public funds wisely and won’t be distracted by false claims.

The statement urged everyone involved to calm down and not test the patience of the government.

It also asked the public to ignore hyped-up reports and instead focus on the government’s work to restore peace and good leadership in Rivers State.
