A fresh wave of violence has struck Agbo Vengav community in Udam, Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
Suspected armed herders launched an attack in the early hours of Friday, killing seven people, including women and children.
The attack reportedly began around 1:00 am while residents were asleep. Witnesses say the gunmen stormed the community, catching people off guard.
An online media claimed a source revealed under condition of anonymity that a young girl was among those killed, while her mother was abducted. “Her whereabouts remain unknown,” the source added.
Locals say the attackers moved swiftly, leaving destruction in their wake.
“The number of bodies recovered so far is seven. A search is still ongoing for more victims who may be missing or hiding in nearby bushes,” another source reportedly claimed.
Benue State Police Command has not made an official statement to confirm the attack.
This latest incident adds to the growing list of violent attacks linked to herdsmen in Benue State, where bloodshed and widespread displacement have been recurring for several years now.
