Fiery Cleric, Tunde Bakare, Calls Out President Tinubu in Sunday Homily: “Stop Playing God”

Pastor Tunde Bakare has issued a bold warning to President Bola Tinubu. He asked him to “stop playing God” and lead with more humility.

Bakare, who leads the Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC), made the statement during his State of the Nation broadcast on Sunday. The event took place at the church’s auditorium in Ikeja, Lagos.

He said the current leadership is taking Nigeria in the wrong direction.

“The current administration is steering the polity adrift,” he said. “It is time for this government to embrace humility.”

Bakare made it clear he doesn’t hate Tinubu or want him to fail. Instead, he said he’s offering honest advice.

“Stop playing God,” he said again. “This is not about condemnation, it is guidance.”

Bakare Speaks on the National Assembly

The pastor also turned his attention to the National Assembly, saying it is losing its strength and failing Nigerians under Tinubu’s watch.

Bakare specifically criticised Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension. The senator was recently suspended after alleging sexual harassment by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

“She spoke for accountability,” Bakare said. “What happened to her was wrong.”

He called on Mr Akpabio to defend democratic principles. “You must explain to Nigerians why the senator was suspended,” he said.

“You are supposed to uphold transparency and fairness,” Bakare added.

Pastor Bakare’s Political History

Bakare isn’t new to political commentary. He once ran as a vice-presidential candidate with President Muhammadu Buhari in 2011 under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

Though he and Tinubu have had political ties in the past, Bakare has become a vocal critic of the government. He often uses his pulpit to speak on national issues.

In his latest message, Bakare said the country needs servant-leaders who listen and serve the people. He said it’s time for Nigerian leaders to act responsibly, not like rulers of a conquered land.

“Leadership is not about pride or power,” he said. “It’s about service.”

He told the President and lawmakers to remember the people who voted them into office.

“Be humble, be accountable, and serve Nigeria with honesty,” he said. “That’s what the country needs right now.”
