The Federal Government says Nigeria loses an estimated $2 billion every year to medical tourism. This loss shows the gap in confidence, access, and quality in our local healthcare system.

At a recent event in Lagos, the Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammadu Ali Pate, represented by Prof. Lanre Wasiu Adeyemo, CMD of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, spoke at the commissioning of a state-of-the-art 50-bed multi-speciality hospital by Avon Medical Practice, a subsidiary of Heirs’ Holdings.

The minister explained that these new projects should help Nigeria curb medical tourism.

He added that the government is ready to help private players through health insurance expansion, regulatory reforms, and the integration of private facilities into national health programs.

This partnership is set to reduce the need for expensive treatments abroad by making quality healthcare available at home.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu backed these initiatives. He said, “I encourage and congratulate the entire team of Avon Medical.
