Nigeria and Algeria have agreed to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations with the launch of Air Algerie’s inaugural direct flight between Algiers and Abuja.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the development, making it a new era of improved connectivity and cooperation.

In a statement, Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa described the agreement as a milestone in implementing the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between both nations.

This direct flight reinforces our commitment to expanding aviation, commerce, and cultural exchanges,” he stated.

The route, operated by Algeria’s national carrier Air Algerie with a Boeing 737 aircraft, is expected to enhance tourism, trade, and investment opportunities between the two countries.

Expanding Prospects For Business and Tourism

Officials expect the direct flight to simplify travel for businesspeople, tourists, and Nigerians in Algeria. “The Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Nigeria in Algiers, leadership of the Nigerian Community in Algeria, and representatives of the Algerian Government will be onboard the inaugural flight,” Ebienfa said.

The Nigerian government sees the initiative as a way to strengthen bilateral ties while offering Nigerians a convenient travel route to Europe, given Algeria’s strategic location. “We believe this initiative will open new opportunities for mutual growth,” Ebienfa added.

The flight service, scheduled to operate twice a week, is expected to make travel more efficient while improving Nigeria’s position as a regional hub for business, tourism, and transit.

Government Support and Future Expansion

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured Air Algerie of full support to ensure the success and sustainability of this service.

The government also commended the role played by the Algerian Embassy in Nigeria in facilitating the agreement.

With increased air connectivity, the Nigerian government encourages businesses and travelers to leverage this opportunity to explore stronger ties between both nations.

Officials say they are optimistic that this service will pave the way for more direct flights and economic collaborations in the future.
