A suspected thief attacked a 25-year-old hawker, Babangida Abdullahi, in Dutse-Alhaji town, Bwari Area Council, of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The incident happened early Wednesday morning, March 26, 2025, at Gate 1, where Abdullahi sold waist belts.
According to Abdullahi, two men approached him pretending to be customers. He said, “One of them picked one of my belts worth ₦1500 and kept it in his pocket. When I confronted him, he refused to return it or pay for it.”
The situation quickly escalated. “He brought out a sharp object from his pocket and cut me around my neck before running away across the expressway,” Abdullahi narrated from his hospital bed.
Medical Care and Police Response
The injured hawker was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital by a police officer. A health official revealed that surgery had to be performed to repair veins near his throat’s artery.
“No relative or associate of the victim has come forward, so we’ve had to cover the cost of injections, drugs, and other medication ourselves,” the police complained.
Nevertheless, Dr. Emmanuel Musa, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, assured that they would continue treating Abdullahi. “We will take care of the victim while we try to locate his family,” he stated.
As of now, no details have emerged on the suspects’ identities, but police are reportedly investigating.
