Deadly Tornadoes and Wildfires Kill 40 Across US Midwest and South

At least 40 people have died after powerful tornadoes and wildfires hit several states in the US Midwest and South. Missouri suffered the worst, with at least 12 deaths.

Missouri had one of the most severe destruction as tornadoes tore through homes, schools, and businesses. Governor Mike Kehoe described the damage as “staggering.”

Hundreds of homes, schools, and businesses have been either destroyed or severely damaged,” he said.

A tornado in Butler County left one house completely unrecognizable.

Just a debris field,” said local coroner Jim Akers. “The floor was upside down. We were walking on walls.

Strong winds also caused deadly dust storms in Texas and Kansas.

More than 55 vehicles crashed in Kansas, killing at least eight people. In Texas, a separate dust storm caused a 38-car pile-up, killing four.

Meanwhile, nearly 150 wildfires burned through Oklahoma, fanned by winds reaching 83 mph (133 km/h). At least four people died, and over 170,000 acres were destroyed. The fires even burned down a farmhouse belonging to Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt.

Emergency Declarations and Power Outages

The storms and wildfires left over 320,000 people without power by Sunday evening.

Flood advisories were in place for several states, including Texas, Louisiana, and Kentucky. Arkansas, Georgia, and Oklahoma declared states of emergency.

US President Donald Trump confirmed that the National Guard had been deployed to Arkansas.

Please join Melania and me in praying for everyone impacted by these terrible storms!” he posted on Truth Social.
