The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released an updated voter register for Rivers State. Rivers State is preparing for the August 9, 2025, Local Government elections.
INEC also published a list of all registered political parties in Nigeria.
In a letter dated March 13, 2025, INEC informed the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) about the release. The letter, signed by Administrative Secretary Odor Napoleon Emezuiruke, confirmed that RSIEC had received a soft copy of the voter register.
RSIEC Reaffirms Commitment to Fair Elections
Following this, RSIEC issued a statement through Commissioner for Media & Civic Education, Tamunotonye Tobins. The commission assured the public that the elections would be free, fair, and credible.
The updated voter register is expected to improve election transparency by ensuring only eligible voters participate. Political parties have also received the list to help them prepare.
INEC’s list of registered parties includes major ones like the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Action Peoples Party (APP), and the Labour Party (LP), along with 15 others.
With this update, RSIEC is intensifying efforts to ensure smooth elections. Officials encourage all stakeholders, including political parties and voters, to participate actively in the process.
