Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has announced it will begin food distribution to over a million poor Nigerians at the cost of ₦16 billion.

The recipients will get a 10kg bag of rice each. The initiative is part of its 2025 Annual National Food Intervention Project. It kicked off in Kano, Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s home state, on Thursday.

Food Distribution to Reach 774 LGAs

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Aliko Dangote, chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Nigeria’s most vulnerable citizens. Represented by his daughter, Marya Aliko Dangote, he explained that the distribution will cover all 774 local government areas across the country.

This annual initiative embodies compassion, solidarity, and shared responsibility. It reflects our commitment to supporting our communities in line with our core values,” she stated.

Dangote noted that food security is a major concern in Nigeria, which is why his foundation is collaborating with state governments to ensure the food reaches those who need it most. He urged other business leaders to step up and support similar initiatives.

This job should not be left to the government alone. We need a public-private partnership to fight hunger,” he said.

Kano State Governor Abba K. Yusuf, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gworzo, flagged off the distribution, commending Dangote for his generosity.

He announced that 120,000 bags of rice would be distributed across Kano’s 44 local government areas.

The intervention reflects Mr. Dangote’s unwavering commitment to addressing poverty and hunger in Nigeria,” the governor said.

To ensure transparency, the state government has set up a committee involving relevant ministries, CSOs, religious leaders, and security agencies.

Commitment to Eradicating Hunger

Zouera Youssoufou, Managing Director of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, stated that the food distribution is part of the foundation’s broader effort to fight poverty.

Mr. Dangote is passionate about philanthropy and committed to reducing hunger in Nigeria,” she told journalists.

Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board in Kano, thanked the foundation for its support and promised that the Hisbah Board would ensure the rice reaches those in need.
