The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has denied reports that some of its members are backing a Nasir El-Rufai and Peter Obi presidential ticket for the 2027 election. The Forum insists it will support only the party’s official candidate.
In a statement on Saturday, the Forum’s Director General, Emmanuel Agbo, described the claim as false and misleading. He stressed that the governors, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, remain committed to strengthening the PDP.
Some media reports had suggested that five PDP governors were in discussions to support the former Kaduna and Anambra governors in a joint presidential bid. However, the Forum strongly denied this, stating that PDP governors are focused on governance, not political maneuvering.
“The PDP Governors’ Forum does not align with these actors,” the statement read. “We have no political space to discuss or endorse any ticket outside of our party’s official process.”
The Forum accused political opponents of spreading falsehoods to weaken the PDP and create division within the opposition.
It claimed the party’s governors are working to ease economic hardship at the state level, despite policies from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that have worsened living conditions for Nigerians.
The statement added, “Our principles are based on equity, social justice, accountability, and ensuring a credible electoral process. In 2027, PDP governors will support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate in the fight to reclaim power at the federal level.”
