At a time when Nigeria faces serious challenges—a struggling economy, worsening insecurity, and crises in education, healthcare, and infrastructure—this scandal is an unnecessary distraction from the real issues affecting Nigerians. Our leaders must focus on good governance, not controversies that undermine public trust.
Even more troubling is that this controversy stemmed from a mere chamber seating privilege, making the situation all the more regrettable because it could have been better managed at that level. Moreso, the female senator felt that her rights were further trampled upoin when she was refused to address the Senate, standing on Order 10 of the Senate Rules.
We, therefore, call on the “uncommon” Senate President to sheath his sword and issue a public apology to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. Such an apology, we believe, would be welcomed by both the senator and her husband, allowing the nation to move forward with dignity.
Without a resolution, this issue risks further distracting Nigerians and gaining a dangerous political twist that could worsen tensions.

At the same time, we recognize the courage and resilience of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. Whether fighting to clean out the alleged corruption at Ajaokuta Steel or navigating her challenging political journey, she has proven to be an Amazon—strong, fearless, and deserving of respect.
Any attempt to ridicule or diminish her must stop immediately.
