Andrew and Tristan Tate, British-American influencers under criminal investigation in Romania, have reportedly left the country. Reports the brothers departed on a private jet early Thursday, heading to Florida after Romanian authorities returned their U.S. passports.
The Trump administration recently pressured Romanian officials to lift travel restrictions on the Tates, who face charges including human trafficking, sexual misconduct, and money laundering. The brothers deny any wrongdoing.
U.S. officials raised the Tates’ case with Bucharest in early February, followed by a meeting between President Donald Trump‘s special envoy, Richard Grenell and the Romanian foreign minister. An insider reported a request to return the brothers’ passports and allow them to travel during ongoing court proceedings.
Since their 2022 arrest, the Tates have spent three months in police detention, followed by house arrest, and were previously barred from leaving Romania. They also face charges in the UK, including accusations of rape and human trafficking.
A Bucharest court has ruled they can be extradited to Britain once a final decision is reached in their Romanian case..
Romania’s special prosecutor’s service (DIICOT) stated the case against the Tates remains active. The brothers are required to return to Romania at a later date, reportedly at the end of March.
Andrew was an ardent Trump supporter in the last US election and was even tipped by tech mogul Elon Musk to contest for the prime ministership of the United Kingdom.
He’s a macho man who promotes masculinity, but some of his detractors have accused him of blurring the line with misogynism.
