Peter Obi, the Labour Party‘s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has reminded Nigerians that the country is worse off now compared to the late ’80s and early ’90s.
Obi shared his views on X after attending the launch of “A Journey in Service“, an autobiography by Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), Nigeria’s military president from 1985 to 1993.
The event took place in Abuja on Thursday, February 20.
Obi praised IBB for his contributions to Nigeria’s economy and his role in developing the nation’s financial sector.
“IBB’s contributions to Nigeria’s economy and his strong support for entrepreneurship and private sector growth remain immeasurable,” Obi wrote.
Under IBB’s leadership, Nigeria witnessed substantial growth, particularly in the financial sector. He also credited the former dictator to have created “policies that strengthened national cohesion and economic development.“
Obi welcomed the documentation of IBB’s experiences. “It allows us to learn from those who have served and left a lasting impact on the nation,” and said he looked forward to picking a copy of his book to read for held valuable lessons.
