Well, there’s no cause for alarm.
That’s because Russia is repatriating munitions and artillery after it lost its military bases in Syria following the fall of the Assad regime.
A fleet of Russian warships, carrying thousands of tons of weapons, started its journey from Tartus and is expected to sail through French waters for a few days, passing through the English Channel. Its destination is Baltiisk, the naval base in the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.
The fleet is currently along the Portuguese coast. A Royal Navy patrol boat, HMS Cutlass, has followed the convoy through the sea passage for protection.
The Russian Navy mobilized its frigate Admiral Golovko, equipped with Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles, as an escort.
The fleet includes the Sparta and Sparta II roll-on/roll-off cargo ships, the military tanker General Skobelev, and the landing ships Ivan Gren and Alexsandr Otrakovsky.
The Russian warships are expected to reach the English Channel in a few days, sailing through French and British territorial waters.
