Former Labour Party, LP, Presidential Campaign Council spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo, has officially resigned from the party.
Okonkwo announced his resignation will take effect from February 25, 2025. In a statement, the Nollywood veteran cited ongoing internal conflicts and leadership challenges within the Labour Party as reasons for his departure.
“My entrance to politics is for good governance, and I will continue to work for it to ensure that Nigeria becomes a great country of incorruptible men. This aim can no longer be realised within the Labour Party as presently constituted.
This resignation takes effect from the 25th of February, 2025, which marks the second anniversary of the presidential election of 2023. After that, I will be at liberty to join other well-meaning, like-minded Nigerians in charting a great future of good governance for this great country blessed by God.“
Okonkwo was a staunch supporter of Peter Obi’s presidential bid in 2023. After losing the election and the court challenge, he resigned from being a spokesman for Obi, stating he would only work for a candidate willing to take on the Nigerian corrupt establishment.

“I thank, most sincerely, all Nigerians of goodwill for the immense support given to us during the 2023 presidential election. We were the only party that had a 25% foothold in all six Geo-Political Zones and the Federal Capital Territory. I believe that we won the election under the Labour Party with your support but were denied the victory through a technical glitch.”
Party Boss – Julius Abure to Blame
Okonkwo criticized the former National Chairman, Julius Abure, and his National Working Committee (NWC) for failing to organize a legally recognized national convention, leading to a leadership vacuum. He also accused Abure of prioritizing personal gains over the party’s survival.

“The Labour Party is non-existent as presently constituted. The tenure of the ward, local government, and state party executives has expired without congresses to renew their mandate. The former National Chairman, Julius Abure, and his National Working Committee (NWC) have failed to organize a legally recognized national convention.”
