President Bola Tinubu has removed the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University, formerly known as the University of Abuja.
Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, the first female professor to hold the position, has been relieved of her duties effective immediately.
Professor Lar Patricia Manko has been appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University for a six-month term. However, she will not be eligible to apply for the substantive Vice Chancellor position when it becomes available.
Senator Lanre Tejuoso has been appointed the Pro-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University.

The other changes, mostly in eastern Nigeria, saw a curious reshuffling of Pro-Chancellors with General Ike Nwachukwu moved from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to University of Uyo, while Engineer Olubunmi Kayode Ojo takes over as the new Pro-Chancellor of UNN.
Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu was removed as Acting Vice-Chancellor and replaced with Professor Oguejiofu T. Ujam. However, Ujam’s appointment will last for only six months.
Professor Zubairu Tajo Abdullahi, currently the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Uyo, has been appointed to succeed Ojo at the Federal University of Lokoja.
Senator Sani Stores is the new Pro-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku University of Education, succeeding Senator Joy Emordi. Senator Stores is a Council Member at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Additionally, Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi, a current Council Member at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has been appointed the new Pro-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State.
The presidential statement said the changes reflect the president’s commitment to revitalizing Nigeria’s higher education system through dynamic leadership and accountability. It did not elaborate.
In Nigeria, the president is the Visitor of all federal higher institutions, with executive powers of appointment and removal of the top leadership.
