The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, announced on Thursday that corps members will henceforth receive a monthly allowance of ₦77,000 starting in February 2025.
Ahmed made the announcement while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina State.
He confirmed that the increase, approved by the Federal Government and included in the 2025 budget, will take effect once the budget is passed. “This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed, by next month (February), you will start receiving ₦77,000 instead of the usual ₦33,000,” he said.
Ahmed reiterated the government’s commitment to corps members’ welfare and security and promised not be posted them to areas with security threats.
“We will not send our corps members to any areas with security challenges. Wherever we send them, they should be assured that the place is safe and secure for them to serve,” he added.
The DG also advised corps members to shun misconduct and negative behaviors. He urged them to be diligent, honest, persevere in the face of adversity, respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities and to integrate quickly after leaving the Orientation Camps.
The NYSC boss additionally want corps members to add value to their host communities by initiating personal or group Community Development Service projects.
“We want you to improve the standards of living of your hosts,” he concluded.
