Kano Anti-Graft Chairman Alleges Corruption Fight-Back After Arrest

Muhuyi Rimingado, Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), claims his recent arrest was a retaliation by those he’s investigating for corruption.

Rimingado, speaking on Channels Television‘s The Morning Brief, said, “Corruption is fighting back. When you fight corruption, corruption will fight back. The anti-corruption fight is fair, but the corruption fight is dirty.”

The PCACC chairman is currently prosecuting Abdullahi Ganduje, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman and former Kano governor, his wife and several others for alleged bribery, misappropriation, and diversion of public funds.

He denied any insinuation that he is witch-hunting anyone. “In fact, we have started this investigation since 2021. I was made to leave and passed through a series of tribulation including arrest, detention, assault and humiliation.

“When I came back, I continued from where I stopped. So, I am not witch-hunting anybody,” he asserted.

Rimingado confirmed that the prosecution will continue despite President Bola Tinubu‘s recent appointment of Ganduje as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) board chairman.

The Kano State High Court has adjourned the hearing of preliminary objections in Ganduje’s case to February 13, 2025.

Rimingado insist that his arrest was orchestrated by one of the suspects being investigated by his commission, who employed the police to detain him.

He stated, “There are lots of activities going around targeted against my person… They cannot wait for the court processes, and they know they cannot succeed in that case, so they now activate the police to arrest me.”

The police accused Rimingado of abuse of power, mischief, and trespass, but he maintains that his commission is empowered by law to prosecute suspects of corrupt practices.
