President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised the Nigerian Armed Forces as the nation’s heroes and pledged unwavering commitment to their welfare and support.

He made these remarks on Thursday during the commissioning of the newly constructed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks and other facilities under the Nigerian Army Special Projects in Abuja.

You are our heroes, and I thank you for what you have been doing for this country,” Tinubu said. He said safeguarding the nation was the military’s leading role and reiterated the government’s resolve to enhance their welfare.

What you are doing for Nigeria is remarkable. The only way to appreciate you is to continue supporting the men and women in uniform,” the president added.

The newly commissioned Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks is a modern facility designed to alleviate the acute accommodation challenges faced by personnel of the Army Headquarters and other establishments in Abuja.

The project, initiated on November 26, 2022, by Major General Philip Eromosele and fully funded under the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, was completed on January 9, 2025, under the leadership of the current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.

Commitment to Troop Welfare

President Tinubu said improving the conditions for military personnel was important, describing it as a critical factor for operational success. “Knowing that the federal government is always ready to provide what the troops need is essential for winning battles,” he noted.

The president told the troops, “It is your welfare. We will not compromise”.

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks has 16 Major General Quarters, 34 Brigadier General Quarters, 60 Major-Colonel Flats, 60 Lieutenant-Captain Flats, 180 Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Flats, and 264 Corporal-and-Below Flats.

The barracks also feature worship centres, sports facilities, a powerhouse, and a secure perimeter fence with three entry and exit gates.

Earlier in the day, Tinubu performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Armed Forces Complex behind Lungi Barracks in Asokoro, Abuja.

The complex further enhances the operational and administrative efficiency of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Several high-government functionaries attended the event, including the Minister of Defence Badaru Abubakar, the Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.
