President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of Inland Dry Ports (IDPs) in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, and Moniya, Oyo State. The decision is to help decongest the Western Port System and boost economic growth for the South West region.
Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola confirmed the approval during the 2025 Budget Defence at the Senate on Tuesday
“The development of Inland Dry Ports will not only ease pressure on the country’s seaports but also create jobs for youths in Ogun, Oyo, and other states within Nigeria’s western region,” the minister said.
These IDPs will act as vital hubs for transportation, storage, and distribution, positively impacting the region’s economy. Oyetola explained, “These IDPs are crucial for fast-tracking the decongestion of our Western Port System.“
He also addressed ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s maritime sector, such as poor infrastructure and limited fish production.

Oyetola said the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy is focused on overcoming these issues through key projects to improve operations and increase revenue.
The Minister assured the lawmakers, “The Ministry is committed to improving maritime safety and security, increasing fish production, and deploying information technology to boost operations.“
He also confirmed that his ministry had finalized crucial documents to establish a strong maritime policy. “These documents are critical to building a strong framework for the future of Nigeria’s maritime sector,” he said.
