Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dissolved the Executive Council.
Mr. Ini Ememobong, the former Commissioner for Information, informed government house correspondents about the dissolution.
Governor Eno inherited the council from his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel.
A statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, directed all commissioners to hand over to their permanent secretaries. Governor Eno expressed gratitude to the commissioners for their service.
The governor invited all members of the EXCO to a valedictory meeting at Government House, Uyo.
During a valedictory dinner, Governor Eno honoured the outgoing commissioners, saying, “This is an emotional moment for me. How do I say goodbye to friends and colleagues who have worked with me from the days of our campaigns, through the trenches, to the elections, and we are here just about 20 months after? It is difficult for me to say goodbye.”
The governor said the outgoing officials “have done extremely well, and they have made the Arise Agenda succeed.”
“This is not a sack; you are being celebrated,” he said.
He shared that this style of dissolution was meant to show respect for their service.
Gov. Eno also mentioned plans to submit a list of new cabinet members to the House of Assembly next week. He stressed that the selection of the cabinet members would not be subject to lobbying but his exclusive prerogative aimed at ensuring loyalty and commitment to his administration’s visions.
Looking ahead, he said his administration would start 31 new projects by March, putting on notice those who may be privileged to come in to prepare to serve.
