Boko Haram Suffers Heavy Losses as Nigerian Military Foils Attack

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters confirmed that over 34 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists were killed in a fierce battle at Sabon Gari Community in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State on January 4, 2025.

The terrorists, armed and riding motorcycles and gun trucks, attempted to retaliate against the military after the recent killing of their commanders.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that the terrorists were caught off guard by the joint air and ground forces. “The terrorists were taken unaware when troops’ fighting patrol… foiled their planned attack as soon as the assault commenced,” Buba said.

The battle resulted in the loss of six soldiers. The military also recovered 23 AK-47 rifles and over 200 rounds of ammunition. Additionally, the Air Force conducted air strikes on the fleeing terrorists.

The military acknowledged the loss of life, stating, “Sadly, six personnel were killed in action.” The names of the deceased soldiers are being withheld until their families have been notified.

Buba’s statement affirmed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains committed to eliminating insurgency and terrorism. “The Armed Forces of Nigeria is profoundly aware of its role and responsibility in ending insurgency and terrorism in the nation,” the military declared.
