Felix Morka, the All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesperson, has denied threatening Peter Obi, the Labour Party‘s presidential candidate. Morka had complained in an Arise TV interview that Obi has “crossed the line” in his anti-government rhetoric and warned of “consequences.”
Morka insisted his words were twisted and that he never threatened Obi or his family. Instead, he vowed to hold Obi accountable for spreading misinformation.
Morka stated, “The right to free speech granted by our country’s Constitution is not Mr. Obi’s exclusive right… Mr Obi cannot disseminate misinformation and demand or expect that no one should disagree or challenge his false narrative“.
The APC spokesman tactfully modified his initial statement that “Peter Obi has cross the line so many times” but now says “There’s no doubt that Mr. Obi has crossed the line of truth in his many assessments” of government performance.
Reacting to these exchanges, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and a political ally of Mr Obi condemned the alleged threat, calling it a disturbing attempt to stifle opposition voices. Abubakar said, “This threat against Obi… signals a worrisome shift towards an authoritarian governance model.”
The Labour Party also weighed in, issuing a seven-day ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu to reprimand Morka. The party warned that Morka’s statements posed a threat to democracy and unity.

Also commenting, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko said whatever assessments of Peter Obi about the state of the nation should be debunked with verifiable facts and not threats against opposition leaders.
“The politics of Nigeria is simple, when they are in positions of power they guard and intimidate you,” Tanko said.
