President Bola Tinubu left Lagos this evening, January 6, for Accra, the capital of the Republic of Ghana, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7.
A statement by the special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Monday that President Tinubu is visiting Accra at the president-elect’s invitation, who visited the Nigerian leader earlier in December.
Mahama and President Tinubu have a longstanding personal relationship, and the two sister countries have a longstanding bilateral relationship, in addition to being members of ECOWAS, which President Tinubu currently chairs.
Mahama won the hotly contested Ghanaian election in December 2024. He previously served as the 12th President of Ghana between 2011 and 2017.
He is succeeding his arch political rival, President Nana Akuffo-Addo, who is stepping down tomorrow.
