The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has claimed it has destroyed 21 illegal oil refining sites, arrested 11 suspected oil thieves, and recovered 190,000 litres of stolen petroleum products in the Niger Delta as part of intensified operations conducted with other security agencies.
Lt. Col. Jonah Danjuma disclosed that operations from December 30, 2024, to January 5, 2025, led to the dismantling of these sites and recovering significant quantities of stolen products across various areas, including Yenagoa and Rivers State.
In Yenagoa, over 70,000 litres of stolen crude and 700 litres of illegally refined diesel were confiscated.
In Rivers, troops uncovered an illegal connection point on the Oando Pipeline and recovered over 22,000 litres of stolen products. Danjuma claimed in Delta State, they intercepted two vehicles containing over 7,500 litres of stolen products and recovered an additional 2,500 litres of crude oil.
Eight drums, totalling 2,240 litres of petrol, were seized in Akwa Ibom. Major General Jamal Abdussalam praised the troops for their efforts.
He reiterated the importance of cracking down on oil theft to foster a conducive environment for socio-economic activities in the region.
