Schools across Nigeria will resume on Monday, January 6, 2025, following the Christmas and New Year breaks. Teachers, pupils, and parents are preparing for the new term.
In Kano State, boarding students will return on Sunday, January 5, 2025, while day students will resume on January 6, 2025. The state government warned that disciplinary actions would be taken against latecomers. Dr. Ali Makoda, the State Commissioner for Education, emphasized the government’s commitment to quality education and efficient school staff.
In Jigawa State, schools will also resume on January 6, with boarding students returning on January 5, 2025. Professor Isa Chamo, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Science, and Technology, assured parents that teaching aids had been provided for effective learning.
Similarly, Delta State schools will resume on January 6. Mr. Augustine Oghoro, the Permanent Secretary, highlighted the need for teachers to recommit to improving education standards. Monitoring teams will ensure compliance with the directives.
However, due to ongoing renovations, the Federal Government shifted the resumption date of unity schools to January 12. This was communicated in a circular signed by Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwazzo, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education.
While schools prepare to reopen, parents across the country worry over rising costs of provisions, clothes, transportation and even school fees, most of which are hit by inflation from government reforms.
As the 2024/2025 secterm begins, state governments urge parents, teachers, and students to ensure a smooth transition back to academic activities.
