Police Report Loss of 140 Officers in FCT in 2024

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) reported the loss of 140 officers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) alone in 2024.

Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu attributed these deaths to attacks on officers during violent protests, health issues linked to high blood pressure, ostensibly from pressures of work, and other causes.

The Commissioner assured that the families of the deceased officers had received their entitlements and other support in accordance with the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

Disu highlighted the significant security challenges in the FCT, including banditry, kidnapping, and armed robbery, but also noted successes, with 1,426 cases reported and 1,077 suspects arrested throughout the year.

Looking ahead to 2025, the FCT Police Command says they want to enhance community policing, adopt intelligence-led strategies, and conduct targeted operations to address ongoing security concerns.
