Christmas and Boxing Day, Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, 2024, respectively, plus New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1, 2025, have all been officially declared work-free days by the federal government.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released on Monday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
The minister extended the government’s warm felicitation to all Nigerians, with a message to focus on the values of love, peace, and unity that the festive season represents.
He urged citizens to use the holiday period to strengthen family bonds and promote harmony within their communities.
“The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
The government wished Nigerians a joyous Christmas and a fulfilling New Year, urging them to have faith and confidence in a better tomorrow for the country.
The period is used by Christians to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, and to celebrate the arrival of a new year, according to the Gregorian calender.
Many Nigerians use the period to return to family and friends in their local communities of birth and marked with celebrative funfair.
