Nigerian Presidency Fires Back at UK Conservative Leader Kemi Badenoch

The Nigerian presidency has taken on the new leader of the Conservative Party in the UK, the Nigerian-born Kemi Badenoch.

Badenoch had recently been criticised for her uncomplimentary remarks about the state of affairs in her home country before she emigrated to the United Kingdom.

Kemi accused the Nigerian police, when contrasting it with the UK police, of stealing her brother’s shoes and targeting citizens they were meant to protect.

On Monday, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, criticised the UK politician as a “badmouth” and “tactless,” asserting that her “irrational diatribes” and “an inane cock and bull story” against Nigeria and her police force “do not add up.”

“For someone who had obviously lied about everything she said about her upbringing in Nigeria just for the feel-good effect of keeping her new job, how can we be sure her brother’s so-called police experience in Nigeria was not another made-up story?” Ajayi asked.

Despite being called a “race traitor” for opposing DEI, UK Conservative Party leader @KemiBadenoch is not backing down.

“Her story of carrying a desk and chair to sit in class at ISL didn’t add up. Her claim that she had no clean water to drink was complete baloney for a girl who grew up in an upper-middle-class family—mother a university professor and father a successful medical doctor who ran a well-known private hospital with a rich clientele.”

The presidency asked Mrs. Badenoch to concentrate on bettering UK society, which, like any other country, “has many problems and challenges yet to be resolved.”

“If Kemi’s party made the UK a paradise in their 14 years in power, they wouldn’t have lost the election woefully,” the Nigerian presidency wondered.

Will UK’s Policy on Nigeria Change

Mrs Ajayi compared some sympathetic reviews from Nigerians about Badenoch’s comments to unwise children who think that “because their parents do not have a right to personal honour and dignity insofar as their parents could not provide all they desire and fancy.”

Mrs Badenoch is a step away from the Prime Ministerial position in the UK. She acknowledges her Yoruba heritage but disputes any affinity with Islamic northern Nigeria.

While the UK has a one-united Nigeria policy, it will be interesting to see how Mrs Badenoch will navigate her foreign policy regarding Nigeria’s unity if she ever heads His Majesty’s government in London.
