Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has reshuffled his cabinet, removing the Chief of Staff and Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Bichi. There are speculations the SSG was dropped on health grounds.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, announced the reshuffle during a press briefing on Thursday. The reshuffle aims to improve “administrative performance” and deliver “more dividends of democracy” to the people of Kano.
“This is the first major reshuffle of my cabinet,” he said. The reshuffle takes immediate effect, according to the government spokesman.
Key ministries saw changes, with some commissioners staying in their roles. Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi remains the Attorney General, just as Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam moved to the Ministry of Higher Education. Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman now oversees Local Government, while Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata heads Science and Technology.
Five commissioners were dropped, including Ibrahim Jibril Fagge from the Ministry of Finance and Baba Halilu Dantiye from the Ministry of Information. The former officials are directed to report for possible reassignment.
One commentator, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, said he believes, “This reshuffle reflects the Governor’s resolve to meet the aspirations of Kano people.”
Political analyst Musa Bello called it a “strategic step to weed out inefficiency and inject fresh energy” into the cabinet.
